Primera Plus and Flecha Amarilla: Luxury Bus Travel in Western Mexico

Primera Plus is the luxury bus line for western and central Mexico. They run modern coaches with leather seats, WiFi, and individual entertainment screens on routes between Mexico City, Guadalajara, Leon, Aguascalientes, Morelia and the Bajio region.

Primera Plus is owned by Flecha Amarilla, which also runs a separate economy service under its own name. The two share terminals but the difference is night and day — Flecha Amarilla buses are basic second-class, while Primera Plus coaches rival anything in Europe or the US.

The Mexico City to Guadalajara Run

This is their flagship route. The ride takes about 6.5 hours through the Bajio, with departures from Terminal Poniente in Mexico City every 30-60 minutes throughout the day. Tickets run 700-1000 pesos depending on the time slot.

The coaches on this route are their newest. Reclining leather seats with good legroom, power outlets at every seat, onboard WiFi that actually works most of the time, and a clean bathroom.

Other Key Routes

Primera Plus also runs Mexico City to Leon (4 hours), Mexico City to Morelia (4.5 hours), Guadalajara to Leon (3 hours), and Guadalajara to Aguascalientes (3 hours). Some routes extend to Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende and Queretaro.

For the Bajio region — the colonial cities of Guanajuato, San Miguel, Queretaro, Morelia — Primera Plus and its Flecha Amarilla subsidiary are your main options. ETN is the other luxury competitor on these routes.
