How to Reach Cancun
Cancun International Airport: (CUN) ADO serves the airport which is Mexico's
second busiest air hub after Mexico city.
Long distance first class bus routes connect Cancun with Chichen Itza, Valladolid,
Merida, Campeche, Villahermosa, and Mexico City. Buses run east along coast
road Route 307 to Chetumal to the Belize border. A new toll road from Chichen
Itza shortens the trip from Merida. ADO Bus service is available in Cancun Center.
Well paved roads connect all the cities of the Yucatan and Quintana Roo.

and in some places a wide lane suitable for bike travel.

Reach Cancun from Mexico City and Southern
Mexico by ADO first class bus with service from
Merida, Chichen Itza, Valladolid, Chetumal,
Campeche, Oaxaca, and Mexico City.
Cancun is Mexico's most popular beach resort on
Mexico's Riviera. The Riviera includes Cancun,
Cozumel, and Playa del Carmen.
Cancun's high rise hotels and the all night party scene
attract young visitors for Bungee Jumping, Scuba
Diving, Parasailing, and Spring Break partying.
The busiest seasons will be Christmas, Easter, and
February / March Spring Break.
Cancun bus service is extensive. The first Class ADO Bus serves
from a downtown terminal and at the airport. Local buses reach all
the resorts in the hotel district and every part of the city. First class
ADO runs to Playa del Carmen from the airport.

When To Go To Cancun:
Spring break in February and March.
There may be two seasons when the resort is most crowded. Christmas and Easter are
traditional travel holidays for Mexican families and could be crowded times in Cancun.
The weather in Cancun is humid and warmest June through September. July and August
brings rain showers, high humidity, and 90 degree days.
Year round temperatures average 85f days, 75f nights.
Spring break might be in your planning. Cancun allows 18 year olds to drink alcohol and
the resorts have offered all inclusive packages including performance groups that attract US
Spring breakers, usually in late February and all of March.
December and Easter are high season in Cancun.
Showers could come in any month but will be of short duration. November through May are
ideal months for a beach vacation
Hurricane season runs May to December.

Cancun Bus and Transportation Options
There are several options for airport transfer from Cancun Airport (CUN) to the hotel zone, 12 mile distant,
or to Playa del Carmen, 1 hour distant. (ADO recommended by travelers to Playa del Carmen, see ADO
below)
There are collective taxis (colectivos) and there is the public bus as the least expensive options. The
colectivo is a good option, This will be a shared taxi van that will serve to the city and hotel zone. Private
taxis are not allowed to pick up at the airport, they can only drop passengers off at the airport.
The public bus is an option but it will make many stops and could result in a long trip and could be difficult if
you have excess luggage.
A good option is the many shuttle services both private and shared that run to the hotel zone, to the Cozumel
ferry dock, and to Playa del Carmen from the airport.
Search online ahead of your trip and book a shared or private shuttle for airport transfer to the Cancun hotel
zone, Cozumel boat dock, or Playa del Carmen.
ADO provides an inexpensive shuttle to the downtown ADO Central bus terminal, 50 Pesos, every half hour
or to Playa del Carmen, 110 Pesos, every hour.
ADO first class bus service is available at the airports terminal 1 and 2. Buses serve all parts of Southern
Mexico and include service to Mexico City through the ADO Terminal in downtown Cancun.
ADO bus service is available from Terminal 2, domestic and international flights, and Terminal 3,
international flights. Buses reach Playa del Carmen in about one hour. Service is frequent, 110 Peso.
For other destinations, the bus service will take you to Cancun's ADO station, 50 pesos.
A free airport shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes between the two terminals but they are within a ten minute
walk.
You are apt to encounter many sales people, time share sales people etc offering bus service, transfer and
the like, beware.

The Cancun local bus service is plentiful and covers all of the city and the hotel zone. The Hotel Zone route
number buses are R-1 and R-2. These will cover the area between the central bus station ADO and the hotel
Zone. Frequent service by the R-1 and R-2 buses cover the length of the hotel zone and include stops at public
beaches. Buses marked R-15, and R-27 cover part of the hotel zone.
Buses run 24-7 in the hotel district
The Cancun local bus stops at designated stops but you can hail the bus if you are between stops.
The fare for any destination is 8.5 pesos.
