Acapulco's sheltered harbor was once the center of New Spain's trade with the Philippines and in turn much of Asia. Now it is a port of call for several cruise ship lines including Royal Caribbean Carnival cruises that sail the coast out of California.
Acapulco offers the vacation visitor the Museum of Fort San Diego with period rooms that display of the colonial era housing at the fort overlooking the harbor.
