Plentiful lodging options can be found in the area called the Cañada,
(pronounced Canyada) near the Cabeza Maya, the large statue of a
Mayan head at the entrance to the town of Palenque.
If you arrive by ADO, the Cañada is just a few blocks east, 1/2 mile, or
catch a cab for 20 pesos.

Palenque is in the Mexican State of Chiapas, along the Rio Usumacinta,
(Usumacinta River) about 3 hours east of San Cristobal de las Casas and 100 miles
southwest of Villahermosa.

Transportation To Other Mayan Ruin Sites.
A van agency runs no-frills collectivos to the Frontera where you take a boat to the
Mayan Site of Yaxchilan. The van will also drop passengers at the crossroads for
Bonampak. The Chamoan van terminal is located near the Cabeza Maya
sculpture, just down the hill and to the right side of the ruins road you can find their
terminal.

Independent travelers often continue on from Tikal to Belize or Guatemala.
To return from flores book with a Flores van agency or bus back to the border to
return to Palenque by collectivo from Frontera Corozal..
Immigration authorities are active on the road, best to have a passport and copy of
your Mexican Tourist visa.
