day November holiday when families
prepare the tombs for the return of the
spirits.  During this time flowers play an
important role in decorating the tombs
and home altars. Families leave offerings
for the spirits in the home and at the
cemetery.

The Panteon General
celebrates The Day Of
The Dead

The mod is one of
celebration and decoration.  
Ofrendas line the walkways at
the perimeter of the
cemetery.  In the night the
cemetery will blaze with
thousands of candles.  
The people of the city are not
apt to sit long by the graves
as they do in the villages.
It starts in the afternoon of the
last first day in November
when families go to the
cemetery to clean and
decorate the tombs.

the new Cementerio Nuevo.
October 31, the village of Atzompa holds a later cemetery vigil starting around 11 pm.
