The Nauset trail, a  three mile round trip walking or bike trail leads from the Salt Pond

The
Nauset Dunes Trail is one of the best for wheelchair or baby carriage use because it is not too long
at a mile and half and it has some diverse scenery from pine  woods to marsh as shown above where the
trail crosses a marsh on a bridge.  There is an incline at the Coast Guard Beach end but once you reach
the Coast Guard Beach parking lot, the views of the dunes and marshes make it worth the climb.

Provincelands Dunes Trail  Another reasonably flat paved trail that will make the dunes and nature trail
accessible to baby carriages and wheelchairs is at the lower tip of Cape Cod where the high dunes to the
east of Provincetown At Herring Cove Beach offer a stark land of sand and scrub pine with not a house in
sight.

Free Parking along the Cape Cod Rail Trail:
Starting in Dennis and running all the way to the Salt Pond Visitors Center in Eastham and beyond to
LeCount Hollow, this trail is flat and paved and for the most part except in small sections In Orleans,
off-road.  Free parking is available at several sections along the way including at Nickerson State Park at
the entrance to the park, at Orleans, at the Salt Pond Visitors Center, and at LeCount Hollow.

Getting to Cape Cod: Boston is the nearest large city to Cape Cod.
Air service reaches Boston from other major hubs and cities.
Rental cars are available at the airport.
From Boston take
Route 93 to Route 3 and after 60 miles, cross the Cape Cod Canal. Continue on
Route 6 for all locations on Cape Cod or go to Route 6A for the slower scenic route through the villages.
Routes
6 and 6A join in Orleans and go to the tip of Cape Cod.
Several small
commuter airlines serve Hyannis Airport and Provincetown Airport on Cape Cod from
Boston, Providence, and New Bedford.   Cape Air, US Airways Express, and Linear Air (Hanscom Field
Bedford Ma)
Bus service is available from Boston and from Logan Airport. Plymouth and Brockton, Logan Direct
serves Hyannis
Bonanza Bus Lines serves Bourne, Falmouth, and the Wood's Hole ferry from Logan Airport
Passenger Boats  leave daily from Boston to the tip of Cape Cod (May -September)   at Provincetown.
Bicycles can go aboard.
A fast cat boat and a slower conventional passenger boat make trips from Boston. Bicycles permitted
A
passenger boat makes a daily run from Plymouth, MA to Provincetown.
Fifteen large towns and many small villages make up Cape Cod.

Upper Cape: Along the Cape Cod Canal, the towns of Bourne and Sandwich define the northern limit of
the upper Cape  
Mid Cape includes Barnstable, Yarmouth and Dennis. The mid Cap is where you will find Hyannis Airport
Lower Cape includes Brewster, Harwich, and Chatham.
Outer Cape starts in Orleans and includes Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown.

•        West end: both sides of the Canal near the base of the railroad bridge.  Large rig
parking on the north side, mainland side, at the bridge.

•        Beneath the Sagamore bridge on the mainland side of the canal. Find a small lot
on the east side of the bridge.  

•        Beneath the Bourne Bridge on the Cape Cod side of the canal.

•        Free large rig parking at the Cape Cod Canal Museum on the east end of the
canal on the Cape Cod side.  Joe's Lobster.  Free parking at the lot near the power

From there you can reach the
Eastham Windmill by bike or a walking on flat and for the most part off-road trail.
 Bike across the main road, Route 6,  towards the Lobster Shanty.  Turn right just after the Little Capistrano
Bike Shop.  Follow Old Slate road to Locust Road and soon you will come to the
Rail Trail where it crosses
Locust road.
Take a left onto the rail trail and follow it for a quarter mile to Samoset Road.  Take a left and bike a short way to
the Eastham Windmill.  Round trip in all about 3 miles.
