ruins of an old

There are some steep hills in the area around Eygalieres but for the most part  the terrain is over low hills
through wine and olive farms centered by Medieval villages like Eygalieres, and Les Baux.

From Eygalieres you can hike or drive to the Rock climbing  
sites nearby: Orgon,  Aureille,  and  Mouriès  
  • Long Hike, Saint Remy-de-Provence
The Walking Trail  GR-6   comes north from Salon de
Provence and passes near Eygalieres Center on its way
over Mas de la Vallongue and through the Alpilles Hills to St
Remy  and the Glanum Ruin.  From there the trail goes to Les
Baux-de-Provence and to Tarascon.
Roman ruins near Fontvieille and Arles include the Roman
aqueduct that carried water from the east to the grain mill at
Barbegal.  Find the aqueduct at the junction of Route 33 and

A good short hike from
Eygalieres Village is offered
by the Orgon Road (Avenue
Jean Jaures) towards the
Chapel of Saint Sixte.  
This Saint is honored on the
Tuesday after Easter.   A  
procession walks towards
the chapel dedicated to this
3rd century saint
accompanied by Camargue
Guardians on white horses
and men and women
dressed in the costumes of
Arles.  
They walk to the chapel and
celebrate mass in the
ancient language of
Provencale.

When To Go To Eygalieres Provence:   
  •  March to November
March to November is a good time to visit Provence although November and March will have more rainy   
days.  Campgrounds open in April, although the Winter months are usually without snow but could be cold   
and  there could be a Mistral wind.  Otherwise it rarely becomes extremely cold except in the higher   
elevations.   
  • Hiking Biking
Provence biking and hiking is good any season except that during July, August, and the first half of    
September some woods and trails will be closed due to fire hazard.  
The weather in Provence is temperate March, April (50-75 F) and May and the early part of June.  
These month are considered low season in terms of lodging prices.  
  • High Season
The end of June, and all of July and August can be crowded at times in Provence as much of Europe takes
its summer vacation.  Much of France  goes on a six-week July August  vacation and many people head   
south.    Summer months are warm and dry.  
  • Low Season
April to mid June and September to mid November offer low season vacation rental prices.  
Weather is ideal in May and June and September October, great months to visit.
Showers could come in any month but will be of short duration in the summer, more frequent November to
March.  Provence is notably dry in summer and depends on irrigation for agriculture.
