The Colorado mountain town
of Breckenridge was
established in 1859 as a gold
mining center. Today the town
has 4,500 full time residents and
many seasonal residents and
visitors who come for the skiing,
hiking, mountain biking, fly
fishing, and summer festivals.
Breckenridge is located at 39°29′11″N
106°02′37″W in the heart of the Rocky
Mountains at 9600 feet.  The area attracts
outdoor lovers with it mountain bike trails,
hiking trails into the high mountains, trout
fishing on the Blue River, recreational gold
panning, and boating on Lake Dillon.  
River rafting is popular in Breckenridge
and rentals of equipment bikes, rafts etc.
are available in the small downtown area
among the many specialty shops.  
Other attraction for Breckenridge are walking and shopping in the tidy downtown
streets and the walkway along the stream that runs through town.  The Breckenridge
Festival of Film takes place in the summer months.  Also there are festivals in the
downtown area where visitors can pan for gold, and join in the festivities during the
June "Kingdom Days" celebration when tents and booths are set out along the
walkways through the town beside the river and various crafts are displayed.  Another
heritage event occurs during he July Fourth parade.
