Day Trips South Of Avignon, Provence the South of France
Base in Avignon and take day trips South to many interesting
villages and towns of Provence
From Avignon, Aix en Provence is a little over one hour away.
  • Saint Remy
St Remy is about 30 miles south and west of Avignon. Just outside St. Remy find  
the Roman Ruin of Glanum.  Nearby reach  Les Baux-de-Provence
  • Arles
Further west reach Arles and the gateway to the Camargue.
  • Castle at Tarascon
Tarascon is a short trip  southwest of Avignon on the Rhone River.
  • Nimes is 20 minutes west from Arles.
Many other interesting villages and towns of Provence such as Salon de
Provence  are just a short drive,  train ride or bus ride south.
  • Cavaillon
Cavaillon is a 15 minute drive south of Avignon.   
  • L'isle-sur-la-Sourgue is near Cavaillon.  This area is noted for antique
shops and the Easter and August antiques fair.
  • Marseilles
Marseilles is one hour and a half south by good high speed toll roads.  Also
reached by train and bus.
  • Aix-en-Provence  
Aix-en-Provence is about an hour south and east.  
  • Cassis
The coast of the Mediterranean is one and a half hours away.  Nice can be
reached in three hours.  Cassis is a day trip from Avignon, just beyond
Marseilles.

trip from Avignon by car, train or
public bus
Once the home of Cezanne and Emile
Zola,
Aix-en-Provence is full of history,
color, and texture and claims one of the
most beautiful streets in France.
Aix en Provence will offer lots to do
and see
Aix en Provence has public
transportation to other cities and hiking,
biking and kayaking excursions in the
nearby hills.

Marseilles can be reached from
Avignon by High speed train, by
car or by public bus.
By bus it is about an hour and a
half to two hours.

The City of Marseilles offers
small trains that make loops
from the old port through the city
and include a trip to the
Cathedral Notre Dame de-la-
Garde high on a hill that
overlooks the harbor and the city.
  • Cassis
From Avignon reach
Cassis in about two
hours, 91 miles.
Hiking: From Marseilles
you can  make a twelve
hour or more trip along
the cliff trails to the port of
Cassis     ( Park could be
closed in summer due to
fire hazard)
Along the coast between Marseilles and Cassis there are  Calanques
(inlets)
large and small, several reached only by boat or by hiking.
Avignon Day Trips to the south can reach many
villages and cities in Provence.  From Avignon, Aix en
Provence is about one hour away, Marseilles at about
90 miles to the south, a drive, train ride, or bus ride
away.

In France and Italy you can rent a car and do not need to show an International Permit, only your drivers
license    Italian law, however,  requires that.....
