research by archaeologists.
The site was built by people of the Teotihuacan culture, archaeologists believe, because glyphs found at
Alta Vista are similar
tocircle-cross glyphs used by ancient builders to lay out the city of Teotihuacan.
This room called the Observatory was used to observe the sun rise over the distant Chalchihuites mountains.
The walls form sightlines to the distant mountains where the sunrise could be observed.
The people of Alta Vista used these rooms as a solar observatory for tracking the rise of the sun over distant mountains and to predict the Zenith event at the northern limit of Mesoamerica.
