Acapulco, the Pacific Coast Beach Resort on Mexico's Pacific Coast can be reached by bus from Pie de la
Cuesta.
Daily bus service leaving every 15 minutes reaches downtown Acapulco's zocalo.

the all night party scene attract young visitors, spring break crowds,  and
cruise ship passengers who come to
the
resort city of Acapulco to vacation and party.

Cuesta, a Pacific Coast Beach area six miles north of
Acapulco's beaches.  Bus to deep sea fishing,
beaching, dining, and partying on Mexico's Pacific
Coast
Acapulco's sheltered harbor
was once the center of New
Spain's trade with the
Philippines and in turn much of
Asia.  Now it is a port of call for
several
cruise ship lines
including
Royal Caribbean  
and Carnival cruises that sail
the coast out of California.
Acapulco offers the visitor many attractions, including history tours of Fort San
Diego and sport fishing for Marlin, Sailfish, and Dorado from the sport fishing fleet
located just north of the cruise ship terminal.
Harbor cruises and SCUBA dive boats leave from the same location.
Across the street from the sport fishing fleet you will find the Zocalo, the small main
plaza where
craft sales often take place and where nearby restaurants offer local
seafood.   
On the north end of the arcing beaches on the Bay of Acapulco, you find the cruise terminal and the fishing,
tour  and SCUBA dive boats.  On the south end of the bay, you find the high rise hotels restaurants and
beach-side clubs.  You can bike or bus to any of these beaches. The road, however, is congested for
bikers and it is better to go by the local bus from Pie de la Cuesta.

How to Reach Acapulco  
  • Buses
Long distance first class buses run along coast road Route 200 and from major
cities on the new toll roads that connect all the coastal resorts. From  
Mazatlan,
buses run south to Manzanillo, Puerto Valarta and Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo and then
to Acapulco,  Estrella Blanca bus (Futura Bus) runs to Acapulco  from  
Puerto
Escondido,  Estrella Blanca serves from Puerto Escondido to Acapulco's Ejido
Station in 8 hours,  First Class buses Estrella Blanca connect through Morelia from
Mexico City.   Service is offered daily (Futura Bus) out of Guadalajara and Morelia.
  • Air Service
Flights reach Acapulco's airport, south of the city,  from Mexico City and from
several US hubs.
  • Auto:  
Route 200, the coast road runs through Acapulco.  A high speed road connects
from Mexico City
Acapulco's famed cliff divers
climb to this promontory and dive
into the sea.

  • RV, Bike, Camping
For the RV and Tent camper and Long Distance Bike Traveler, Pie de la Cuesta is just north of the city and
reached from an entrance road off Route 200, the main coast road.  Pie de la Cuesta is a nearly ten mile
barrier beach area that offers campgrounds for tents and RVs on the beach side of the road   Local buses
run every 10-20 minutes from the one main street to the city of Acapulco.  When returning to Pie de la Cuesta
by bus watch, for the bus reading Pie de la Cuesta  
Luces or Playa,   (Beaches)  they will go to the beach
area.

Pie de la Cuesta, is six miles north of Acapulco.   
RV and Tent Camping is available for Long Distance Bike riders and Travelers just off Route 200 at this
barrier beach that stretches for nearly ten miles along the coast. On the other side is the Coyuca Lagoon, a
famous bird habitat that offers boat trips for wildlife viewing.  
The name Pie de la Cuesta means at the foot of the slope.  This is a nearly deserted Pacific Coast Beach
compared to Acapulco's beaches.

When To Go To Acapulco:   
Acapulco makes an ideal beach vacation year round.  
  • High Season
There  may be two seasons when the resort is most crowded.  Christmas and Easter are traditional travel
holidays for Mexican people and the proximity of Mexico City to Acapulco (240 miles) means that the resort
could be crowded on these two holiday weeks. Mid July into the end of August can also be times of travel for
Mexico City vacationers.  December through April is high season in Acapulco.
  • Climate
The weather in Acapulco is humid and warmest June through September.  July and August bring rain
showers, high humidity, and 90 degree days.
Year round temperatures average 85f days, 75f nights.
Showers could come in any month but will be of short duration.
November through May are ideal months for a beach vacation
Hurricane season runs August to December.  
  • Spring Break
Spring break might be in your planning.  Acapulco allows 18 year olds to drink alcohol and the resorts have
offered all inclusive packages including performance groups that attract US Spring breakers, usually in late
February and all of March.
