Yellowstone National Park, Horseback Riding
Yellowstone National Park's caldera is 30 miles wide by 45 ;miles long in a roughly oval shape and
encompasses Yellowstone Lake, with depths of 430 feet, and the Yellowstone River. One and
two-hour trail rides on the eastern side of Yellowstone can be found on the road between fishing
bridge and Canyon Village near the Yellowstone River.
The volcanic nature of Yellowstone National Park accounts for the many geysers and hot springs
including the famous Old Faithful Geyser, named because of its predictable nature. The area near
Canyon Village is called the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and shows the result of superheated
ground water that conveys chemical and minerals to the surfaces and colors the rocks.
Near the riding stables, the Yellowstone River has cut a canyon with rocks colored by minerals and
is viewable from Artists Point
