Provence hiking and biking trails are many,
and often they connect the villages through
grove and vineyards.
The trails are well marked in the local
language. You can hike through the narrow
cobbled streets of one village and then into
the hills on networks of trails through the
groves and vineyards for the hike to the next
village. A good map and compass/gps will
keep you on track.
Each village has a market day where the
fruits and vegetables will be fresh or you can
find the produce vendor to stock up on the
low-fat crushed olive tapinades spiced with
basil, the fresh fruits, goat cheese, and
French bread. Your trail might lead to a local
vineyard for a bottle of wine to complete the
picnic lunch on the way to the next village.
In the Luberon Mountains , the Alpiles , and
Vaucluse Plateau, the villages where you will
find lodging are usually no more than six to
ten miles apart
