- June, Fete de la Tarasque
Tarascon holds a week long Fete de la Tarasque
starting the last week of June with free concerts and
street parties which celebrate the victory over a
mythical dragon that terrorized the city. Saint Martha
was able to subdue the beast which rose from the
Rhone River in 48 AD.
The city center of Tarascon has museums and ancient
buildings including the Church of Saint Martha just
across from Tarascon Castle.
In August the city celebrates Medieval history with the
festival Les Medievales, a costumed parade in the
city center, Boulevard de Roi Rene.
Tarascon's mythical
dragon terrorized the city
in the first century AD
according to legend.
The GR 6 passes through Tarascon on its
way from Eygalieres to the east.
