Huatulco to Zipolite Beach, Bus Service
on Route 200 Oaxaca, Mexico
From Zipolite you can reach the transportation
hub of Pochutla to catch the coastal bus south
to Huatulco or north to Zicatela Beach.
Zicatela is known for its surfing and partying in
the town of Puerto Escondido.
Puerto Escondido is a simple resort
compared to the Mexican Riviera's Acapulco
and Puerto Valarta.
Escondido offers rental equipment, tour
attractions, nightclub happy hours, luxury
mid-rise hotels, and beaches with lodging
from $8 a night up to $150.
Breakfast for $5: 50-60 pesos, Pancakes,
fruit, and coffee, Dinner: $7.50 grilled Dorado,
Guacamole, tostadas steamed vegetables;.

and New Years)
Huatulco, to the south and east along the
coast offers mid rise luxury hotels and golf.
Huatulco offers lodging in the tidiest town on
the entire coast of Mexico, (Except for
Zihuatanejo) La Crucecita. Prices range from
a 20 USD night posada to a 5 star suite for
$250 USD and up.
Huatulco offers 31 beaches in nine bays
where you can choose open ocean surfing or
protected bays for snorkeling. Rent snorkel
gear at Playa Intrega
La Crucecita's restaurants line the plaza where
they offer breakfasts 60-80 pesos and
afternoon menus of Grilled Mahi-Mahi,
Braised Beef, and traditional Mexican foods.
From Huatulco you can get a bus or flight to
the City of Oaxaca (inland at 5000 feet
elevation where you will need warm clothing)
and then Mexico City, or travel north by bus
along the coast to Acapulco a highrise resort
on the Pacific Cost.
The temperature on the coast is always perfect
for the beach and bus service is efficient and
inexpensive. The lodging is plentiful and
reasonable except at Christmas time, Easter .

Another option is the
collective cab called
camionetta (explained), a
5-10 peso pickup truck with a
covered rear bed that makes
frequent stops and charges a
small fee. (5-10 pesos)
This can be an experience in
discomfort and is
recommended only for those
that are on a tight budget
OCC (ADO) First Class Buses from
Huatulco reach Pochutla and
Puerto Escondido. From Pochutla
taxis, 100 Pesos, or shared taxis,
colectvos 15 Pesos, or camioneta, a
pickup truck for 10 Pesos, reach
Puerto Angel and Zipolite and
Mazunte, on Oaxaca's Pacific Coast.
Oaxaca's Zipolite Beach
Zipolite Beach can be reached
by bus from Huatulco to Pochutla
and then by taxi or collective taxi.
First class buses leave the first
class ADO terminal (OCC Bus)
in Huatulco and travel north on
the coast road to the town of
Pochutla and then Puerto
Escondido
The 2nd class local bus leaves
hourly from the second class
terminal near the ADO Huatulco
bus terminal.
From Oaxaca City's first class
ADO Bus terminal, OCC buses
reach Huatulco and include
night service for the 8 hour trip.
OCC buses and local buses
then reach Pochutla and Puerto
Escondido.
Second Class service leaves
Oaxaca City's Second Class
terminal and goes over the
mountains to Puerto Escondido
or to Pochutla. (8 hours)
Vans serve from Oaxaca City
and make runs to Pochutla. (6
hours), to Puerto Escondido,
and to Huatulco
The mountain driving can be
tough on those prone to motion
sickness. Medicine is
recommended for those taking
the vans and for those
particularly sensitive who will
take the bus.

sections of the highway are completed)
Transportation to Zipolite
from Huatulco
Reach Mazunte, Ventanilla, and Puerto
Angel's beaches by taxi or camionetta which picks
up and drops off passengers all along Calle
Principal, the road that runs parallel to the beach,
Playa Panteon in Puerto Angel gives you the
most relaxed swimming beach and a modern hotel
with snorkel tours, scuba diving, and sightseeing boat
tours leaving from the beach.
Mazunte offers the turtle rescue project and museum.
Ventanilla offers a lagoon tour where you see
crocodiles in the wild.
Zipolite can also be reached by air from Oaxaca's airport (OAX) to Puerto Escondido and then from bus southeast
along the coast to Pochutla. From there a short (6 mile) taxi or collective camionetta ride reaches Zipolite.

The local bus covers the forty
miles in about 90 minutes or
less
You can ask the driver (local
Bus ) to let you off at the
Zipolite/ Mazunte crossroads
and catch a collective
camioneta from there to
Zipolite or you can stay on
the bus until you reach
Pochutla. From Pochutla you
take a taxi or
colectivo/camioneta (shared
taxi) for the six miles to
Puerto Angel, Zipolite, and
Mazunte.
OCC Bus (ADO First Class terminal) First Class service reaches Pochutla via Huatulco. The route then goes
Northwest along the coast to Pochutla where you leave the bus to catch a taxi or collective taxi to Puerto
Angel, Zipolite, or Mazunte. Stay on the OCC bus for Puerto Escondido, 40 miles up the coast to the
northwest.
Reach Puerto Escondido also via air service from Oaxaca City or Second Class buses which run over Route
175 and Route 135, making more direct runs over the mountains to Pochutla and Puerto Escondido
Juchitan and Salina Cruz are also first class transportation hubs for trips to Huatulco,
San Cristobal de las Casas, Tapachula, and Palenque
