How to reach Deer Isle on the Maine Coast:  Go North from Boston on the high speed highways the
Maine Turnpike.  Boston to Portland Maine is 110 miles north.  From Portland follow Route One to
Bucksport and then  south to Deer Isle.  270 miles from Boston,  5 1/2 to 6 hours

The largest island at the tip of a
peninsula in northern Maine, Deer Isle
is surrounded by the waters of
Penobscot Bay.  The Island receives
much moisture in the form of fog and
rain.  While hiking you find the muted
tones of the rain forest.  Grey green
mosses cling to trees and rocks and
pads of dark green moss line the trails.  
The hiking trails take you through slices
of raw nature to coves where
wave-rounded rocks,border stands of
tall White Spruce.  In the forests of moss
covered Fir trees along the coast,
Eagles build their treetop nests.
