Boston Pops concert and fireworks.
Landmarks that should not be missed for the history lover include the
Freedom Trail, a walking trail that links the Paul Revere House, the
Boston Massacre site, Old North Church, Faneuil Hall/ Quincy Market,
the Old Statehouse, the Bunker Hill Monument, and Old Ironsides, the
oldest commissioned warship and one that fought in the war of 1812.
Boston has long been famous for its artists and art museums including
the Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and
Harvard's Fogg and Bush Reisinger. The latest entry, a new art museum
right on the harbor, the museum of Contemporary Art. Long a small
collection tucked into a tiny building near the Prudential Center, the new
modern building houses and expanded collection in a setting with a water
view.
A walking path along the harbor leads from downtown to the new building,
an area where the tall ships will tie up.

Getting to Boston: Air service reaches Boston's Logan
Airport (BOS) from other major hubs and cities. Rental cars
are available at the airport. From the airport boat shuttles
reach the City of Boston at several places,
Transit service and taxis reach the city after a short drive.
Passenger Boat service leaves daily from Boston to the tip
of Cape Cod (May -September) at Provincetown. Bikes can
go aboard.

Schedule, 4th of July Concert
The shell area in front of the concert stage opens at 9:00 am. The fireworks can be
seen from anywhere along the Charles River including the Cambridge side.
Speakers broadcast throughout the area but to see the performers, it is best to set
up early in the shell area. 9:00 – 10:00 am. Once the concert start it is very difficult
to walk amongst the crowd.

Boston's Fourth of July Concert and Fireworks

Keith Lockhart led the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra when they performed for the 37th annual Boston
Fourth of July concert and Fourth of July fireworks celebration. Singer Toby Keith was the featured performer.
This event is free of charge each year; there is no entrance fee.
The highlight of the festival is always the combining of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture played by the
Boston Pops Orchestra with the fireworks launched from barges on the Charles River. Army units fire
howitzers as part of this performance making a powerful visual and auditory event.
The entrance to the shell opens at 9:00 am and visitors swarm in to set blankets on the grass and make a day
of picnicking. The best option for reaching this event is public transportation, Boston's subway system. The
Red Line has a Charles Street Station that is close to the River walk and concert stage shell. The Green Line
subway has a station close to the Boston Public Garden where a pedestrian only bridge leads over to the
Charles River.
This is a very popular and crowded event; it is best to start early and make a day of it.

Alcohol is not permitted, security checks coolers on entrance. No camping, cooking, or barbecue grilles.
Boaters are allowed to enter the River at the locks and to tie up or anchor near the shell. Drinking is
prohibited on the waterway. The locks crowd up by mid day or early afternoon so it is best for boaters to
make an early start.
